Untitled (August 16, 1916)

Mind empty, I pray to Buddha and find my spiritual center;

In a mountain temple I face a monk, poetic interests stir.

Oaks and pines for a hundred years gird the wall,

Creepers and lichens in one day climb the fence.

Who annotates a tome in candlelight at the cavern entrance?

It is difficult to inscribe a gatha on moss covered stone.

Let me ask the Zen monk meditating in the thin robe:

Where does the green mountain mist touch the worldly dust?
