不作文章不論經

漫走東西似泛萍

故國無花思竹徑

他郷有酒上旗亭

愁中片月三更白

夢裏連山半夜青

到處緡錢堪買石

傭誰大字撰碑銘

Untitled (August 21, 1916)

I will not write poetry, I will not discuss the classics;

Idly I move east and west like floating duckweed.

My hometown has no blossoms, I long for bamboo trails;

Other places have wine, I walk up to the inn.

The crescent moon in my sorrow, white at the third watch;

The stretch of mountains in my dream, black at midnight.

Wherever I go, my string of coins can pay for a stone;

Whose bold hand shall I employ to write the epitaph?
