21. From the Wood Chip Chronicle, 14 Poem (September 1889) – No. 4

其四

南出家山百里程
海涯月黒暗愁生
濤声一夜欺郷夢
漫作故園松籟聲

No. 4

I leave my home on a journey south one hundred leagues,
At ocean’s end, the moon is dark, I am beset with hidden sorrow.
The waves roar all night, illuding me as I dream of home,
Evoking the wind in the pines of my garden.
